LAYLOW
Brass and Steel Spiral Staircase

Project Brief
Club owner Taz Fustok had a conversation with Metal Wizards, Taz painted a virtual picture of a spiral staircase encased in a cage, “Venice” and “Michelangelo” were thrown in and an idea was born. Consulting with his partner (Bella Freud) they shared more of their visions with Metal Wizards they wished to incorporate, Brass, Felt and black steel into the design so the design process began!

Design Process
The design was the inspiration of Bella Freud and Artist & Owner Taz Fustok. Taz worked closely with the Metal Wizards team to create the functional masterpiece of the Fustok & Freud design. The combination of brass, steel and felt was genius and truly a unique piece

Manufacturing Process
With the outline concept and vision committed to, it was time to surrender it to the manufacturing team. Measurements were taken and regulations considered. The distribution of the weight of the entire structure required careful thought and investigation of the timber joists of the 1st and 2nd floors. Fabrication drawings were completed and materials ordered for phase 1. The staircase was conceived, designed and fitted within 8 weeks.

Conclusion
Metal Wizards spiral staircase is the showpiece of art and fashion in Laylow private members club in Notting Hill, London. Vogue’s (Kate Spicer) described it as the centrepiece of the Club and it truly is something we are incredibly proud of!
